TRIP OVERVIEW
Upper Mustang trek offers a spectacular trekking experience in the Himalayan region of Nepal. This trek begins with flight to Pokhara and next morning another flight to Jomsom and same day trek to Chile. Upper Mustang is also known as the Last Forbidden Kingdom because it wasn’t until the 1990s. While trekking in the Upper Mustang region of Nepal, we can admire the uniqueness of tree-less landscape, rocky trails and views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and other Himalayas. Mustang is a remote semi-independent Tibetan Kingdom with a walled capital called Lo- Manthang. Upper Mustang was once part of Tibet and was used by the salt caravans crossing the Himalaya into Nepal. Upper Mustang is located north of Annapurna and at an average altitude of 4,000m is geologically and culturally part of the Tibetan plateau. The valleys are arid and dry with colorful rock hills formations containing many cave dwellings high up in the cliffs. The first trekking parties were allowed into Upper Mustang in 1992.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu transfer to hotel

DETAIL ITINERARY
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon your arrival in Kathmandu airport, you will be greeted by a representative from Waiba Adventure Trek who will drop you to your hotel in Kathmandu. A full briefing will be given after you check in. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu
After breakfast, you will be going for whole day city sightseeing with the Nepali tour guide to most historical attractions in Kathmandu which are also listed on UNESCO World Heritage sites. We visit the historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhunath) and Buddhist shrine (Bouddhanath), which is also one of the biggest Stupa in the world. The tour is likely to finish around 4pm and the rest of the day is free to explore around Thamel around your hotel as well as to pack your baggage for the trek starting tomorrow morning. You can leave a bag at the hotel with items not needed on the trek. Overnight at Fuji Guest House or similar in Kathmandu.
Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara-7 hours
Today we will fly to Pokhara a short scenic 25 minutes flight. On arrival at Pokhara airport we are transferred to Hotel. Remaining afternoon leisure in Pokhara or sightseeing around the lake side. Pokhara is a beautiful city well known as city of Lakes and Mountain View is stunning. Overnight in Pokhara.
Day 04: Fly to Jomsom (2,700m) and trek to Kagbeni (2,810m)-4 hours trek
Today we will take an early morning flight to Jomsom which takes 20 minutes having close views of Annapurna Range, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri and other more. Upon landing at the Jomsom airport, we head out for Kagbeni. Jomsom and surrounding is famous for Apples, strong winds and the landscape. We begin our trek on an open trail alongside a beautiful valley. We pass through Eaklibatti village before reaching Kagbeni which is ideally located at the bank of Kali Gandaki river. The village in this region is beautiful with flat-roofed houses. Overnight in Kagbeni.
Day 05: Trek to Chele (3,050m)-6 hours
After we get our permits checked we will head for Chele. We begin our trek on a trail alongside the Kali Gandaki River. We walk on sand amidst strong winds before ascending on a hill. We walk through out Tangbe and Chuksang Village and admire its narrow alleyways, with the barley, buckwheat and apple orchards fields; we continue walk alongside of the river and cross the bridge and then small ascend to reach Chele Village. Overnight in Chile Village.
Day 06: Trek to Syanbochen (3,475m):7 hours
Today we will trek to Syanbochen passing through a small settlement known as Samar village. During the walk, you can find a distinct change in topography, culture, lifestyle, and people. From today onwards it will be a little harder compared to what we experienced before. Today we cross a multiple small passes such as, Taklam La pass (3,624m), Dajong La pass (3,660), Bhena la (3830m) and Yamda la (4010m). After crossing these passes, you will descend on a pleasant trail to Syanbochen. On our way, we enjoy great views of Tilicho, Yakawa Kang and Damodar Danda.Overnight in Syanbochen.
Day 07: Trek to Ghami (3,520m): 5-6 hours
We ascend to the Syanbochen la at 3,850m. On the way, we pass by a few teahouses, Chortens and beautiful villages Chhunggar. After we ascend to Nyi La Pass at 4,010m from where, we can enjoy view of Annapurna and Nilgiri himal. From here, we descend to Ghami which is one of the biggest villages in the Lo region. The village is beautiful with fields surrounding the entire village. Overnight in Ghami.
Day 08: Trek to Tsarang (3,620m): 5-6 hours
After breakfast we start with the small descend and cross a suspension bridge over the Ghami Khola and begin ascend passing long and beautiful mani walls along the trail. Next, we cross the Tsarang La Pass at 3870m and descend relatevly easy way to reach Tsarang village. Overnight in Tsarang.
Day 09: Trek to Lo-Manthang (3,730m): 3-4 hour
We begin our trek by descending to a canyon and cross a river and start ascending steadily trail to Day La pass at 3950m. From the top of the pass we can admire the beautiful Lo Manthang village. From the pass we descend to Lo Manthang which is a beautiful walled village. From here the views of the Himalayas including Nilgiri, Tilicho and Annapurna I, Bhrikuti Peak as well as Damodar Kunda is breath taking. Overnight in Lo-Manthang.
Day 10: In Lo-Mantahng explore around
Lo – Manthang is a walled town and culturally very rich town of the remote Upper Mustang region of Nepal. We spend the day in Lo Manthang touring three major Buddhist Gompas in the town such as Jhampa, Thupchen and Chhoeda. Beside these, we can also hike or horse ride to Chosar which is a beautiful place to visit its situated eastern part of Lo Mangthgang. Back to Lo Manthang, Overnight in Lo Manthang.
Day 11: Trek to Dhakmar (3820m): 6-7 hours
We trek on a different route when returning from Lo-Manthang. Our trail passes through Gyakar village which houses a century old Ghar Gompa with beautiful rock paintings. According to a local legend, anyone who makes a wish at the Gompa will have it fulfilled. We explore the Gompa and continue our trek to Drakmar for an overnight stay. Overnight in Dhakmar.
Day 12: Trek to Ghilling (3,570m): 5-6 hours
We start our trek with early breakfast to avoid strong winds and descend for the most part of the trek. Our trail passes through a dry plateau and fields before reaching Ghiling. The walk can be relatively difficult as we are most likely to experience strong winds on our face. Ghiling is a nice village from where we get good views of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri mountains. Overnight in Ghiling.
Day 13: Trek to Chhusang (2980m): 5-6 hours
Today we walk on the same trail as before going up to Lo Manthang. On the way to Chhuksang we can enjoy the great views of the Himalayas and small villages we pass en route. Overnight in Chhuksang.
Day 14: Trek to Jomsom (2,720m): 6-7 hours
It’s a long final day passing back through Kagbeni to Jomsom where we end our trek. We stop for lunch at Kagbeni. After lunch, we continue our trek to Jomsom. After trekking for a while, we come to an end of our Mustang trails and join the trails of the Annapurna circuit. We continue our trek to Jomsom. Overnight in Jomsom.
Day 15: Fly back to Pokhara
Today we wake early in morning to take a exciting 20 minutes flight to Pokhara. The airplane passes through a gorge between Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains making the flight itself an amazing experience. After arriving in Pokhara, we can spend the rest of the day in leisure. Overnight in Pokhara.
Day 16: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu
After good breakfast we take a flight back to Kathmandu and transfer you to the hotel. After reaching Kathmandu, we take a rest or do some souvenir shopping.Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 17: Final Departure
Our amazing journey to Upper Mustang trek comes to end today. A company representative will drop you off at the airport 3 hours before our scheduled flight.
