Kanchanjunga Trek

TRIP OVERVIEW

Kanchenjunga (8586m) is the 3rd highest peak in the world. It is located on the border of Nepal and Sikkim ((India). Trek in the area east of Arun valley offer remarkable experience in ethnic culture, landscape, scenic view, dense forest, birds and flowers. You will discover unspoiled and extraordinary culture of Limbu (Kiranti) in the middle hilly region and Bhotia (Tibetan) people in the higher elevation. You get close up view of the awesome and magnificent Kanchenjunga range that extends from north to south. This region is very remote. In the past most visitors were explorers and mountaineers only. Fly to Bhadrapur close to Indian border and same day drive to Pauwa Bhanjyang via famous tea garden at Kanyam. And next day we continue drive to Taplejung  and to Sukethum trek starting point. The road is pretty good till Taplejung then we take a rough road from Taplejung to Sukethum. From Sukethum we start our Trek with gradually ascends up to a ridge and descends to Ghunsa khola (river). Follow the river towards northeast to Gunsa. Travel further on the rugged trail to the glacier at Pangpema (5150m) to see the magnificent view of the northern face of Kanchanjunga and several other beautiful peaks. Retrace the trail to Gunsa and traverse across the Sele La pass (4480m) to visit South base camp of Kanchenjunga at Yalung glacier to see close up view of gigantic peak Mt. Kanchanjunga and Kabru Himal. This trek can be done as a tea house trek we sleep and eat at the guest house.

OUTLINE ITINERARY

Day 01:   Arrival in Kathmandu transfer to Hotel (1,300m)

Day 02:   In Kathmandu sightseeing and trek preparation

Day 03:   Fly from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur and drive to Pawa Bhanjyang  (2,420m), 45 min flight & 4 hours drive

Day 04:   Drive to Sukethum  (1585m) via Taplejung 7-8 ours drive

Day 05:   Trek  to Amjilosa (2395m) 4-5 hours Trek

Day 06:   Trek  to Gyabla (2730m) 3-4 hours Tek

Day 07:   Trek  to Ghunsa (3427m) 5 hours Trek

Day 08:   Rest day in Ghunsa for acclimatization hike to view point

Day 09:   Trek to Kambachen (4050m) 5-6 hours Trek

Day 10:   In Kambachen hike to Januu BC

Day 11:  Trek to Lhonak (4780m) 5 hours Trek

Day  13:  (10 April)  Trek to Ghunsa (3427m) 8-9 hours Trek

Day  14:  (11 April)  Rest day at Gunsa before heading to pass

Day  15:  (12 April)  Trek to Se lele la BC (4130m) 5 hours Trek

Day  16:  (13 April)  Trek to Selele la pass (4480m) and overnight at Cheram (3870m) 8-9 hours

Day  17:  (14 April)  Rest day in Cheram (3870m)

Day  18:  (15 April)  Hike to Kanchanjunga South BC (Oktang) and back to Cheram (3870m) 8 hours Trek

Day  19:  (16 April)  Trek to Tortong (2995) 4 hours Trek

Day  19:  Trek to Rani Pul (1740m) 6-7 hours Trek

Day  20:  Drive to Pawa Bhanjyang, 8 hours Drive

Day 21:  Drive to Bhadrapur overnight in Bhadrapur, 4 hours Drive

Day  22:  Flight from Bhadrapur to Kathmandu
