Kanchanjunga Trek


Kanchanjunga (8600m) is the 3rd highest peak in the world. It is located on the border of Nepal and Sikkim ((India). Trek in the area east of Arun valley offer remarkable experience in ethnic culture, landscape, scenic view, birds and flowers. You will discover unspoiled and extraordinary culture of Limbu (Kiranti) in the middle hilly region and Bhotia (Tibetan) people in the higher elevation. You get close up view of the awesome and magnificent Kanchanjunga range that extends from north to south. This region is very remote. In the past most visitors were explorers and mountaineers only. Fly to Biratnagar and drive to Dhankutta, Hille and to Basantapur. Hille is a small town north of Dhankutta. The rough road from Hille ends at Basantapur. You follow the main trail via the ridge that climb gradually to Gupha Pokhari and cross Milke Danda (hill). Milkedanda range has its ridge full of rhododendron forest. It is the best place to see varieties of rhododendron forests. The trail gradually ascends up to a ridge and descends to Tamur khola (river). Follow the river towards northeast to Gunsa. Travel further on the rugged trail to the glacier at Pangpema (5150m) to see the magnificent view of the northern face of Kanchanjunga and several other beautiful peaks. Retrace the trail to Gunsa and traverse across the Sele La pass to visit South base camp of Kanchanjunga at Yalung glacier to see close up view of gigantic peak Mt. Kanchanjunga. Kanchenjunga trip is known as recently open tea house Trekking also. It can do as tea house, where you will stay overnight and having food.

Day 03:   Fly from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur and drive to Taplejung (2,420m), 45 min flight & 9 hours drive

Day 04:   Trek to Lalikharka (2,265m) 4 – 5 hours trek

Day 05:   Trek  to Khesewa (2,120m) 5 – 6 hours trek

Day 06:   Trek  to Mamankhe (1785m) 5 – 6 hours trek

Day 07:   Trek  to Yamphudin (2080m)  4 -5 hours

Day 08:   Trek  to Tortong (2,995m) 7 -8 hours

Day 09:   Trek to Cheram (3,870m) 2 -3 hours

Day 10:   Cheram: Acclimatization and Rest

Day 11:   Cheram to Ramchaur (Ramche) (4,580m) 3 – 4 hours

Day 12:   Trek (Ramche) to Yalung Base Camp (4500m), back to Cheram: 3 – 4 hours

Day 13:   Trek to Sele La (4290m) 6 -7 hours

Day 14:   Trek to Ghunsa (3,595) 2 -3 hours

Day 15:   Trek to Kambachen (4,050m) 5 -6 hours

Day 16:   Trek to Lhonak (4,780m) 5 -6 hours

Day 17:   Trek to Kanchenjunga base camp (5,143m) Pangpema and return to Lhonak, 7 -8 hours trek

Day 18:   Trek to Ghunsa (3475m) 7 -8 hours

Day 19:   Trek to Amjilosa (2,308m) 5 -6 hours

Day 20:   Trek to Chirwa (1,270m) 6 -7 hours

Day 21:   Trek  to Taplejung via Mitlung (921m) 7 -8 hours trek

Day 22:   Drive from Taplejung to Bhadrapur: 9 hours drive

Day 23:   Fly to Kathmandu

Day 24:   Final departure


Day  01:  Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu airport, you will be greeted by a representative from Waiba Adventure Trek who will drop you to your hotel in Kathmandu. A full briefing will be given after you check in. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day  02:  Sightseeing in Kathmandu

After breakfast, you will be going for whole day city sightseeing with the Nepali tour guide to most historical attractions in Kathmandu which are also listed on UNESCO World Heritage sites. We visit the historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhunath) and Buddhist shrine (Bouddhanath), which is also one of the biggest Stupa in the world. The tour is likely to finish around 4pm and the rest of the day is free to explore around Thamel around your hotel as well as to pack your baggage for the trek starting tomorrow morning. You can leave a bag at the hotel with items not needed on the trek. Overnight at Fuji Guest House or similar in Kathmandu.

Day 03:   Fly from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur (2,420m), Drive to Taplejung; 45 min flight & 9 hours drive

Early morning you will be transferred for your flight to Bhadrapur which is located southeast part of Nepal and then drive to Taplejung. Once we are in Bhadrapur, our vehicle will be waiting for 9 hours drive to Taplejung the trek starting point. Overnight in Taplejung.

Day 04:   Trek to Lalikharka (2,265m) 4 – 5 hours trek

After breakfast, we start our trek towards Lalikharka through various ascent and descent and passing through lush green forests. Lalikharka is a beautiful village in Panchthar District southeastern part of Nepal. Overnight in Lalikharka.

Day 05:   Trek to Khesewa (2,120m) 5 – 6 hours trek

We begin our trek to Khesewa after breakfast. Today‘s trails It is mostly an easy descent and we come across beautiful local village like Simbu and Kade Bhanjyang. From here we make steady ascent to Khesewa. Our trek will be through forests and small villages. Overnight in Khesewa.

Day 06:   Trek to Mamankhe (1785m) 5 – 6 hours trek

After breakfast, we begin our trek towards the Kabeli Khola. Passing through the forest and enjoying the views of magical mountain we pass through several small villages to reach Mamankhe. Overnight in Mamankhe.

Day 07:   Trek to Yamphudin (2080m)  4 -5 hours

Today we will trek mostly uphill on an easy trail walking alongside the Kabeli Khola. We continue our walk and admire a beautiful waterfall. After walking for some time, we cross a suspension bridge and we continue through small villages to reach Yamphudin. Overnight in Yamphudin.

Day 08:   Trek  to Tortong (2,995m) 7 -8 hours

Today we trek through the trail commonly used by the villagers and pass through terraced farms and green meadows. Along the way, also we get to see stunning view of the Himalayas to enjoy. Our trail leads us along the Amji Khola where normally we stop for lunch. After Lunch we trek continue towards Tortong  through Lassiya Bhanjyang and crossing through the beautiful Rhododendron forest. Overnight in Tortong.

Day 09:   Trek to Cheram (3,870m) 2 -3 hours

After breakfast, we begin our steady climb to Cheram. Today’s trek is mostly uphill we walk along side of the Simbuwa River. We enjoy walking in the beautiful Lalung valley passing through the beautiful Rhododendron forest and crossing the Anda Phedi. Overnight in Cheram.

Day 10:   Cheram: Acclimatization and Rest

We spend a day in Cheram to get acclimatize to the high altitude. We can spend the day resting and relaxing. You may also wash your laundry for rest of the trek. If you want, we can also explore the areas around the Yalung Glacier. Overnight in Cheram.

Day 11:   Trek to Ramche (4,580m) 3 – 4 hours

Today our trail is mostly ascending next to Yalung Glacier. It is a beautiful walk. Today we will enjoy several Himalayan peaks along the way. We pass through a small settlement of Lapsang before reaching Ramche. Overnight in Ramche.

Day 12:   Trek (Ramche) to Yalung Base Camp (4500m), back to Cheram: 3 – 4 hours

From Ramche, we continue follow a stream before climbing on the moraine top until confronted by Kanchenjunga’s southern face. We continue our trek further towards the Oktang and then to Yalung Base Camp. From base camp you will enjoy breathing view of, Kumbakarna (Jannu) 7711m,  Nyukla Lachung (6012m) and other more Himalayan peaks. After we enjoy the view we descend all the way down to Cheram. Overnight in Cheram.

Day 13:   Trek to Selele La (4290m) 6 -7 hours

Today we cross the Selele La pass. We begin our trek after breakfast.  Our journey today is mostly uphill and as well as challenging one. Before we head for Selele La we cross couple of other passes such as, Sinelapche Bhanjyang, Mirgin La and Sinion La pass which is not very far from each other. From here, we ascend to Sele La pass. There are prayer flags across one of the steeper sections of the trail which is very near to the Sele La pass and after we descend to Selele Base Camp for overnight stay. Overnight in Selele La.

Day 14:   Trek to Ghunsa (3,595) 2 -3 hours

After breakfast we walk towards Tanbharma Danda and to Ghunsa. We continue our trek to Ghunsa through a moss covered forest of rhododendron, birch and pine giving a strange and intimate atmosphere. We cross the Yamtari Khola (River) before reaching to Ghunsa. Ghunsa  is a beautiful village in this region. Overnight in Ghunsa.

Day 15:   Trek to Kambachen (4,050m) 5 -6 hours

From Ghunsa, we trek further north along the river bank which presents us with panoramic view of the mountain. We pass through the meadows filled with beautiful rhododendron and pine forests. Crossing the bridge at Rampuk Kharka and continue we pass a waterfall and cross the tricky section of a landslide. After crossing the landslide area, we begin to see the spectacular view of Mt. Jannu. Further exploring and tackling the tricky mountain trail we finally arrive at Kambachen. Overnight in Kambachen.

Day 16:   Trek to Lhonak (4,780m) 5 -6 hours

As you approach the frontal moraine of Kanchenjunga glacier today, your walk is relatively easier today keeping in mind the need to acclimatize as the elevation gets higher. We trek through rocky fields and large boulders on the hillside along the riverbank and arrive at a waterfall. We then cross a bridge to Ramtang monastery. We then come across a landslide section which we must pass through at a steady pace before descending to the river and finally arriving at Lhonak. Overnight in Lhonak.

Day 17:   Trek to Kanchenjunga base camp (5,143m) Pangpema and return to Lhonak, 7 -8 hours trek

Today we enter the sacred universe of the world’s third summit. We arrive at the Kanchenjunga Base Camp around the lunch time, so we will enjoy our pack lunch on the lap of giant Kanchenjunga himal. After we enjoy the breathtaking view of the Himalayan we descend back to Lhonak for overnight stay. Overnight in Lhonak.

Day 18:   Trek to Ghunsa (3475m) 7 -8 hours

Our journey today is mostly downhill all the way to Ghunsa via Kambache. It is the same route we took when we were climbing up. Overnight in Ghunsa.

Day 19:   Trek to Amjilosa (2,308m) 5 -6 hours

After breakfast, we descend towards Phale. We walk through beautiful dense forest of Juniper and Rhododendron and reach the Phale village. From here, it is a steady descend to Gyabla. We cross a bridge over Chhundatangka Khola to reach Gyabla. As we continue our trek, we see a waterfall nearby. We also cross a suspension bridge over Sumbung Khola before reaching Amjilosa. Overnight in Amjilosa.

Day 20:   Trek to Chirwa (1,270m) 6 -7 hours

Today we cross a couple of suspension bridge and several small beautiful villages to reach Chirwa.  After walking for a while, we see a beautiful waterfall nearby. We continue our trek and pass a small settlement of Solima before crossing the Ghunsa River and reach Sukathum. Our trail passes through several villages and is beside Thunsa Khola at first followed by Tamor Nadi before reaching Chirwa. Overnight in Chirwa.

Day 21:   Trek  to Taplejung via Mitlung (921m) 7 -8 hours trek

After breakfast, we head to Taplejung by trekking for 8 hours. The trekking trails along the way to Mitlung offer greenery and best, floras and faunas and especially villager are always ready to welcome us.  Overnight in Taplejung.

Day 22:   Drive from Taplejung to Bhadrapur: 9 hours drive

We take a exciting bus ride from Taplejung to Bhadrapur which takes around 9 hours drive.  Overnight in Bhadrapure.

Day 23:   Fly to Kathmandu

We take a short flight to Kathmandu which takes 40 minutes. After reaching Kathmandu check in your hotel and freshen up. And then you can go for shopping the souvenir to take the memory back home. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 24:   Final departure

Our amazing journey to Kanchanjunga circuit trek comes to end today. A company representative will drop you off at the airport 3 hours before our scheduled flight.
