Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek

TRIP OVERVIEW

Dhaulagiri Circuit trek begin with taking flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara and drive to Darbang and trek to Dharapani (14,70m), And trekking through Muri, Dobang, Sallaghari  into the Italian Base Camp. After Italian Base Camp, trekking through the glacier and snow clips, the final challenge over the French pass also the highest point of the trek. After traverses the head of Hidden Valley and crosses Dhampus Pass, this treks end at Jomsom and flight to Pokhara. Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek is one of Nepal’s most demanding treks it requires Rope, ice axe, crampons, good physical fitness and previous experience in the mountain. This adventure is incredibly scenic I am sure you will bring good memories and stories that will last you a lifetime.

Day 01:  Arrive in Kathmandu transfer to hotel (14,00m)

Day 02:  Sightseeing in Kathmandu

Day 03:  Fly to Pokhara (8,27m)

Day 04:  Drive to Dharapani overnight in Dharapani (1,470m)

Day 05:  Trek to Muri (1,850m)

Day 06:  Trek to Boghara (2,080m)

Day 07:  Trek to Dobang (2,500m)

Day 08:  Trek to Sallaghari (2,820m)

Day 09:  Trek to Italian Base Camp (3,660m)

Day 10:  Rest and acclimatization day at Italian Base Camp

Day 11:  Trek to Glacier Camp (4,200m)

Day 12:  Trek to Dhaulagiri Base Camp (4,700m)

Day 13:  Rest and acclimatization day at Dhaulagiri Base Camp

Day 14:  Trek via French pass (5,360m) to Hidden Valley (5,050m)

DETAIL ITINERARY

Day  01:  Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu airport, you will be greeted by a representative from Waiba Adventure Trek who will drop you to your hotel in Kathmandu. A full briefing will be given after you check in. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day  02:  Sightseeing in Kathmandu

After breakfast, you will be going for whole day city sightseeing with the Nepali tour guide to most historical attractions in Kathmandu which are also listed on UNESCO World Heritage sites. We visit the historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhunath) and Buddhist shrine (Bouddhanath), which is also one of the biggest Stupa in the world. The tour is likely to finish around 4pm and the rest of the day is free to explore around Thamel around your hotel as well as to pack your baggage for the trek starting tomorrow morning. You can leave a bag at the hotel with items not needed on the trek. Overnight at Fuji Guest House or similar in Kathmandu.

Day  03: Fly to Pokhara (827m)

We take a short flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara which is 22 minutes; arrive in Pokhara transfer to hotel and in the afternoon sightseeing around Phewa lake. Overnight at Hotel Queens Park or similar hotel in Pokhara.

Day 04:  Drive to Dharapani (1,470m) 9-10 hrs drive

After breakfast, we drive to Dharapani it is about  8-9 hours. From Pokhara to Beni we drive on quite good Asphalt road and after Beni we drive on gravel and bumpy road to Dharapani. Overnight in Dharapani at tented camp.

Day 05:  Trek to Muri (1,850m) -5 hrs trek

After crossing the river to its West Bank as you leave Phedi the trail starts climbing in earnest and there will be many switch-backs until you arrive at the ridge and the angle of ascent eases. Again the trail climbs steeply to the villages of Muri. We Continue trek to Sibang and Mattim, from here you continue up an incline to the snout of the ridge, descend to the Gatti Khola and reach Phalai Gaon and Cross the Dhara Khola to once again emerge on the west bank of the Myagdi Khola and then climb a ridge to arrive large Magar village of Muri. Overnight in Muri at tented camp.

Day 06:  Trek to Boghara (2,080m) -6 hrs trek

After a short descend, we cross a stream and continue through terraced fields before climbing a ridge to reach the pass you see Mt. Ghustung South (6465 m). From here we descend to the Myagdi Khola and trek along West Bank to the village of Naura from where you will climb a little before traversing a grassy hill and climb a steep slope with switch-backs and then descend through a forest and terraced fields to arrive Boghara. Overnight in Boghara at tentedcamp.

Day 07:  Trek to Dobang (2,500m) -5 hrs trek

From Dobang, the trail first descends through terraced fields to a small ridge, then through a forest to Jyardan which is the most remote permanent settlement in this part. A high winding path follows the village, crossed rocky area piled high with stones, then grass covered traverse, finally descending a steep stone step path to the river edge. Follow the river a bit, then climb a mountain path and cross a stream with a high waterfall to a Kharka. Follow a gently sloping mountain path to Lipshe with its single hut. The trail continues through a forest to Lapche Kharka and then climbs to the level area at Dobang. Overnight in Dobang at tented camp.

Day 08:  Trek to Sallaghari (2,820m) – 5 hrs trek

After crossing a wooden bridge out of Dobang the trail ascends through the forested area. Soon the west face of Dhaulagiri I (8167 meters) becomes visible through breaks in the trees. Descend to the Myagdi Khola and cross via a wooden bridge to the east bank continue to Chartare. Passing through forests again, you cut across a rocky area and cross a stream to Sallaghari. Overnight in Sallaghari at tented camp.

Day 09:  Trek to Italian Base Camp (3,660m) -7 hrs trek

Follow a trail (which is not very well defined) to the terminal moraine of the Chhonbarban Glacier and enter the glacier from the right. Tukche Peak (6837 m.) becomes visible straight on, at the far end while the impressive north flank of Dhaulagiri I (8167 m.) dominates the skyline to your right. After a short while you will reach Italian Base Camp. Overnight in Italian Base Camp at tented camp.

Day 10:  Rest and acclimatization day at Italian Base Camp

We will spend a day here in order to acclimatize and adjust to the thinning of the air. Relax and rest day. Overnight in Italian Base Camp at tented camp.

Day 11:  Trek to Glacier Camp (4,200m) -6 hrs trek

We will leave early morning when the weather is expected to be clear. Trail is bit prone to stone fall, and pass through a narrow gorge. Overnight in Glacier Camp at tented camp.

Day 12:  Trek to Dhaulagiri Base Camp (4,700m) -7 hrs trek

Here starts our adventurous day to Dhaulagiri base camp. From here you can look up at the impressive north face of Dhaulagiri I (8167 meters) dominating the skyline to your right. . After a short while you will reach Dhaulagiri Base Camp (3660 m), which is also the site of your camp for the night. To the west are the peaks of Dhaulagiri II (7751m), Dhaulagiri III (7715 m) and Dhaulagiri V (7618 m). Overnight in Dhaulagiri Base Camp at tented camp.

Day 13:  Rest and acclimatization day at Dhaulagiri Base Camp

Another rest day, very important for the acclimatization, Views from this place are breathtaking and there is plenty to explore around. Overnight in Dhaulagiri Base Camp at tented Camp.

Day 14:  Trek via French pass (5,360m) to Hidden Valley (5,050m) -6 hrs trek

After the glacier you climb two terraced hills, the first of which runs along the glacier, and then cuts across a mountain flank and a moraine you enter a gentle incline on the left from an ablation valley. Climb this gentle slope to the French Pass (5100 m.). A great vista opens up from the French Pass and you will be able to see Mukut Himal (6328 m), Tashi Kang (6386 m.) and Sita Chuchura (6611 m.), all of which surround the Hidden Valley. To the south is Tukche Peak (6920 m.) and beyond is the massive peak of Dhaulagiri I. From French Pass you continue along the right edge of the Hidden valley losing a little altitude to Thapa Pass (5250 m.) between Tukche Peak and Thapa Peak (6,012 m.). Descending from Thapa Pass you will make a high camp at about 5360m. Overnight in Hidden valley at tented Camp.

Day 15:  Trek via Dhampus Pass (5,240m) to Yak Kharka (3,680m) – 6 hrs trek

Descend from the hidden valley to the Dhampus Pass and continue to Yak Kharka. There is a perfect camp site to enjoy and relax. Overnight in Yak Kharka at tented camp.

Day 16:  Trek to Marpha (2,670m) -4 hrs trek

From here steep descend to the village of Marpha, on the west bank of the Kali Gandaki River. Marpha is home to many apple orchids as well as all the various food products made from fruit. Apple Brandy is a local brewery. Marpha village is traditional village of the ethnic Thakali people. Overnight in Marph accommodation at guest house.

Day 17:  Drive From Marpha to Pokhara 10 hours.

Today we going to make a memorable drive from Marpha to Pokhara it is one of the excited drive route in the Himalaya. It is off road drive around 90 km, we will be driving along the Kali Gandaki river and view of Dhaulagiri is stunning. Overnight in Hotel Queens park or similar hotel in Pokhara.

Day 18:  Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu

Day 19:  In Kathmandu

Day 20:  Final departure
