Langtang Helambu Trek

TRIP OVERVIEW

Langtang Helambu Trek, Is one of the nearest destinations from Kathmandu which is situated at 132 km north of Kathmandu and offers the magnificent views of Himalayas (Langtang Lirung Langtang (7246m), Thrimzhung Gang (6388m), Naya Kangri (5846m), Yala peak (5700m) and Dorji Lhakpa (6966m).with its rich biodiversity in flora & fauna. This is a classic trek to Langtang valley then to the beautiful Gosainkund lakes followed by crossing Laurebina La pass (4610m). The Langtang valley then opens out to an alpine plateau with fine views of Langtang and Ganesh Himal. From lodges at Kyangin Gompa you can explore the impressive glaciated upper valley surrounded by high Himalayan peaks. The trek up to Gosainkund takes you through the high alpine zone and then we cross the Laurebina La pass adorned with Buddhist prayer flags. From here we descend into the Helambu valley with breathtaking views north to the Himalayas and south to forested hills and the city of Kathmandu. The main habitant in Langtang is Tamang with their rich culture and people of Tibetan origin is another attraction of this region. It is accessible without flights. Tea house trek along the trail gives us an opportunity to experience the great views of the mountains not to be found elsewhere.

Day  04:  Trek to Rimche (2485m)

Day  05:  Trek to Langtang village(3200m)

Day  06:  Acclimatization day at Langtang explore around.

Day  07:  Trek to Kyanjing Gompa (3900m) day hike to Chhonak Lake and further to view point

Day  08:  In Kyanjing Gompa climb Kyanjing Ri (4773m) and back to Kyanjing Gompa for overnight.

Day  09:  Trek down to Lama hotel (2480m)

Day  10:  Trek to Tlulo Syabru village (2200m)

Day  11:  Trek to Shing Gompa (3585m)

Day  12:  Trek to Gosain Kunda lake (4381m)

Day  13:   Rest day at Gosain Kunda for acclimatization explore around Gosain Kunda holi lake

DETAIL ITINERARY

Day  01:  Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu airport, you will be greeted by a representative from Waiba Adventure Trek who will drop you to your hotel in Kathmandu. A full briefing will be given after you check in. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day  02:  Sightseeing in Kathmandu

After breakfast, you will be going for whole day city sightseeing with the Nepali tour guide to most historical attractions in Kathmandu which are also listed on UNESCO World Heritage sites. We visit the historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhunath) and Buddhist shrine (Bouddhanath), which is also one of the biggest Stupa in the world. The tour is likely to finish around 4pm and the rest of the day is free to explore around Thamel around your hotel as well as to pack your baggage for the trek starting tomorrow morning. You can leave a bag at the hotel with items not needed on the trek. Overnight at Fuji Guest House or similar in Kathmandu.

Day  03:  Drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi overnight in Syabru Besi (1503m) 9-10 hours drive

After breakfast we will drive for Syabrubesi, a village which is our trek starting point for Langtang valley. We will drive via Trisuli bazar and Dhunche. On the arrival at the Dhunche this is the major town of the Langtang area of Rasuwa district. We will also be encountering the Headquarter of the Langtang National park office. On a clear day we get to enjoy outstanding views of Manaslu,Ganesh Himal and  langtang Himal. Overnight in Syabru Besi.

Day  04:  Trek to Rimche (2485m)

After breakfast, we begin our trek from Syabru Besi following the Langtang Khola crossing multiple times suspension bridge. Our trail continues gradually climb up to the valley along with Langtang Khola. We will walk through beautiful dense forest. Today any time we might see Langur a kind of monkey jumping on the big tree.  About the mid way other side of the river we will see quite a many wild bee hives hanging on the steep tock it’s interesting to see. Our trail continues cross the suspension bridge on Langtang Khola and then we ascend till Rimche. Overnight in Rimche

Day  05:  Trek to Langtang village(3200m)

We continue ascending from Lama Hotel we keep following the Langtang khola (river) and trek through beautiful jungle again some trees are really old and giant. As we reach the green meadows of Ghoda Tabela, we begin to see the white peaks of the Langtang himal range just above Langtang village. Following the trail from Ghoda Tabela which means “horse stable” in English, we continue the trek towards beautiful valleys and Yaks grazing on the pasture. Just before reaching newly built Langatang village we will pass by the old place affected by devastating earthquake in April 2015 killing 450 peoples at one spot.  Overnight in Langtang village.

Day  06:  Acclimatization day at Langtang explore around.

Today we have a rest day, easy breakfast after we explore up to Mundu and back to Langtang in the afternoon relax and rest. Overnight in Langtang Village.

Day  07:  Trek to Kyanjing Gompa (3900m) day hike to Chhonak Lake and further to view point

After breakfast, we follow the trail towards to Kyangjin Gompa. We pass by prayer wheels, Stupas, with sacred mounds of rocks with the Buddhist inscriptions carved on them.  We also pass by the largest mani wall, made from stone with prayers written on them. After the short trek, we arrive to Kyanjing Gompa have a lunch after we will explore to Chhonak lake just other side of the Kyanjing Gompa. It is a beautiful lake and if we walk bit further up from the lake the mountain view of the Langtang Lirung 7227m, Langtang II 6596m, Yubra himal 6264m, Ganchenpo 6387m, area mind-blowing.  It’s about three hours up and down from Kyanjing Gompa. Overnight in Kyanjing Gompa.

Day  08:  In Kyanjing Gompa climb Kyanjing Ri (4773m) and back to Kyanjing Gompa for overnight.

We have early breakfast and begin explore to Kyanjin RI which sits at an elevation of 4773m. After enjoying the amazing views we’ll descend back to Kyanjin Gompa. In the afternoon rest and relax you may visit the bakery enjoy the cake and fresh coffee which you deserved today. Overnight in Kyanjing Gompa.

Day  09:  Trek down to Lama hotel (2480m)

After the breakfast we retrace our steps down to lama hotel. Today you will feel much more strong, comfort and your lungs takes full of breath. Good thing is that you will enjoy the scenery that you have missed ascending upwards. Continue trek descending to Lama Hotel throughout the nice forest, cross the crystal clear river and Yaks grazing on the pasture are beautiful. Overnight in Lama Hotel.

Day  10:  Trek to Tlulo Syabru village (2200m)

After breakfast we gradually climb up to Rimche Village. From here, most of the trail will be downhill till landslide lodge we pass through the forests, River and small tea houses. From landslide lodge we continue ascend our trek to Thulo Syabru village. Overnight in Thulo Syabru Village.

Day  11:  Trek to Shing Gompa (3585m)

Today we will be gaining more height with breathtaking view of Ganesh Himal as we reach higher up. Today will be a short walk but it is important to stop here for acclimatize. The walk from here advances the winding uphill trail above the monastery continuing around two hours uphill from the farmlands into cool shades of alpine forest to reach Sing Gompa a beautiful place. When we reach in Sing Gompa we will visit (Yak) cheese factory. Overnight in Sing Gompa.

Day  12:  Trek to Gosain Kunda lake (4381m)

Today we get to enjoy fantastic panoramic views of the Himalayas including the Annapurnas range, Manaslu, Ganesh himal and Langtang. We follow a ridge for the most part of the day and catch a glimpse of the first of the holy lakes. The third lake, Gosaikunda is of particular religious and cultural significance for the Nepalese and is one of Nepal’s most important pilgrimage sites. The lake is surrounded by mountains on almost all sides and has a great ensemble of nine other lakes to accompany it. The large rock at the center of the lake is said to be the remains of a Lord Shiva Shrine. According to legend, Gosaikunda was created by Shiva when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain water to quench his thirst after having swallowed a poison that was threatened to destroy the world. Day  13:   Rest day at Gosain Kunda for acclimatization  explore around Gosain Kunda holi lake

Today after breakfast we will climb up to the view point (2 hours up down) for the panoramic view around the area. Back to Gosainkunda have a lunch rest and relax. Overnigh in Gosainkunda.

Day  14:  Trek to Phedi (3730m)passing laurebina La pass (4600m)

After early breakfast we move towards the Laurebina La pass. Today we walk through four small lakes to reach the pass, keep looking back at the spectacular views of Manaslu, Annapurna,  Ganesh Himal and as well as the Langtang Lirung. The trail is rough and crosses moraines, but is well marked. After the pass we descend steep down to Phedi. Overnight in Phedi.

Day  15:  Trek to Tharepati (3600m)

Today we will be walking multiple times ups and downhill on a trail that passes through Rhododendron and bamboos forest. You climb through the forest to arrive at the village of Tharepati which situated right on the hill top from where you will see marvelous view of the Helambu village and Jugal Himal on a backdrop. Overnight in Tharepati.

Day  16:  Trek to Kutumsang (2471m)

Today the trail is mostly downhill to Kutumsang throughout  fir and rhododendron forest where there are no permanent settlements. The trek continues via Magingoth  with the breathtaking  views of the Himalayas such as, Gang Chhenpo, Jugal Himal, Nayagang, Dorje Lakpa,Langtang Lirung and many other more peaks. Finally, we arrive at Kutumsang. Overnight in Thadepati.

Day  17:  Trek to Chisapani (2194m)

After breakfast today, we continue our trek to Chisapani. we start with gradual ascend through the forest and descend via terrace fields and villages. Today’s the trail to Chisapani is pretty ups and down via beautiful village of Gul Bhanjying and Pati Bhanjying. But, panoramic views of the Annapurna range, Ganesh Himal and the Jugal range are standing there to compensate the pain you had today. Arrive Chisopani overnight in Chisopani.

Day  18:  Trek to Sundarjal and 40 Minutes drive to Kathmandu drop to hotel.

From Chisapani, the trail progresses through the Shivapuri National Park. It is a pleasant walk today through a dense forest of Rhododendron and pine’s trees and heads down towards to Sundarijal. Sundarijal is a famous drinking water source for Kathmandu peoples. Once you arrive at the Sundarijal, our transport will be waiting to take us to Kathmandu city which is 40 minutes drive. Overnight in Kathmanmdu.

Day  19:  In Kathmndu

Day of leisure in Kathmandu, do some souvenir shopping to take memory back home. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day  20:  Final departure

Our amazing journey to Langtang Helambu comes to end today. A company representative will drop you off at the airport 3 hours before our scheduled flight.
